Preparations are currently underway for the 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit, which will be held during 26-27 March 2012.
The summit is the largest in the security field focusing on international cooperative measures to protect nuclear materials and facilities from terrorist groups.
More than 50 heads of state and international organizations will participate in the event. The current planned agenda includes:
- Cooperative measures to combat the threat of nuclear terrorism
- Protection of nuclear materials and related facilities
- Prevention of illicit trafficking of nuclear materials
Pre-summit programs focusing on the nuclear industry and nuclear security have been arranged and are expected to be attended by high level delegates and participants.
The 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit will attract a substantial degree of international media attention. The focus will be on nuclear security but will inevitably also be on the security situation relating to North Korea.
